Small Batch Fiber Processing
What Does Small Batch Processing Mean?
Unlike large commercial mills that combine fibers from multiple customers to process large volumes at once, we work in small batches. This allows us to keep your fiber separate throughout the process and give it the individual attention it deserves.
Small batch processing helps preserve the unique characteristics of your fiber, whether that's the softness of alpaca, the luster of mohair, or the crimp of fine wool. It also gives us greater flexibility to accommodate custom blends and special requests.
At Moe Acres, your fiber isn't just another number in a production line. We treat each fleece as if it were our own.
How it works
1. Send Your Fiber
Package and ship your fiber to Moe Acres. Be sure to clearly label any fibers that should be kept separate or blended together. We recommend removing excessive vegetable matter and debris before shipping whenever possible.
2. We Wash & Prepare
Once your fiber arrives, it is carefully washed, dried, and prepared for processing. Our goal is to preserve the natural character of your fleece while creating a clean, workable fiber for the next stage. Please make sure you completed the needed forms.
3. We Transform Your fiber
Your fiber is transformed into beautiful batts or roving using our small-batch processing equipment. Looking for finished yarn? Through our partnership with local fiber artist Kelsey, your processed fiber can also be spun into custom yarn.
4. We Return Your Finished Fiber
Once processing is complete, your fiber is carefully packaged and shipped back to you. Whether you're spinning, felting, weaving, knitting, or preserving a special fleece, your fiber will arrive ready for its next chapter.
